If you’ve been charged with DUI, there’s a good chance that you’re scared or unsure what to do next, and understandably so. The consequences for DUI convictions are often serious — prison time, jail time, license suspension and probation are all mandatory penalties for those convicted of drunk driving.

A DUI arrest can cost you thousands of dollars in fees and fines, so it’s a good idea to have a DUI lawyer on your side. A DUI lawyer will have the legal know how necessary to help minimize the damage your DUI charge could cause.

An individual who is convicted of Driving Underthe Influence is faced with mandatory incarceration, substantial fines, and a minimum one (1) year driver’s license suspension.

The vast majority of people charged with DUI will not be formally arrested, (i.e. “booked” and taken immediately before a Judge) but instead will receive the Criminal Complaint by mail, along with a Summons to appear in District Court for the Preliminary Hearing. The next step would be to hire an experienced local criminal defense attorney to represent you in court and fight for your rights.

When choosing a criminal defense attorney, you should look for an attorney whose primary practice is Criminal Defense, as the DUI laws are extremely complex and frequently change. Most importantly, your attorney should have extensive experience with the local Criminal Justice system where you are charged with committing the crime. Each county has different local rules of procedure and it is important that your attorney be familiar with these differences in procedure to properly represent you.

Few firms, if any, possess our background and extensive experience in this area of the law. It is our background as former Prosecutors that sets Young, Klein & Associates apart from other attorneys, giving us the unique expertise to examine the case from both sides in order to achieve the best results for our clients.
